Conversational search and thread summaries are among the features.
After initially offering its artificial intelligence (AI) tools to a limited group of customers earlier this year, Slack has just made them available to all of its paying users. Since the beginning of the previous year, the corporation has been teasing these capabilities, and now they are finally available.
When users are away from their keyboards or smartphones, the artificial intelligence will automatically construct channel summaries to provide them with essential highlights of content that they missed. This will allow them to keep track of vital work-related content and workplace jokes. According to Slack, the algorithm that is responsible for generating these recaps is intelligent enough to incorporate content from the many different topics that are discussed in the channel. In other words, you will receive a paragraph on the progress that has been made in organizing Jenny’s cake party in the conference room, as well as another paragraph about the trends in sales or whatever else.
A similar option is offered for threads, which are more intimate talks that take place between a single person or a small group of people. It is possible to summarize any of these topics into a brief paragraph using this tool. In addition, customers have the option to subscribe to a daily recap that is given every morning for any channel or thread.
A further feature that is worth mentioning is the conversational search. Because the numerous Slack channels go on for an indefinite amount of time, it can be difficult to locate the appropriate discussion when it is required. In this way, individuals are able to pose inquiries using conversational language, while the algorithm is responsible for conducting the real search.
Slack AI now provides support for the Japanese and Spanish languages, so these features are not limited to solely being accessible to English speakers. Slack has been quoted as saying that it will soon incorporate some of its most popular third-party applications into the AI ecosystem. Additionally, integration with Salesforce’s Einstein Copilot is scheduled to take place in the not too distant future.
There is still a lot of uncertainty on whether or not these technologies will genuinely be useful, or whether they are merely further justifications for including the letters “AI” in promotional materials. Despite the fact that I have been using Slack for a considerable amount of time, I have not come into a great deal of situations in which I would require a series of automatically created summaries. This is because longer talks are often reserved for one-on-one meetings, emails, or video streams. However, it is possible that this will cause individuals to use the service differently.
