On May 30, the new rule will go into force.

Additionally, Google has revised its Inappropriate Content Policy to include language that clearly forbids ads from promoting websites and services that generate deepfake pornography. This new language was added to the policy. This change makes it quite clear that promoting “synthetic content that has been altered or generated to be sexually explicit or contain nudity” is in violation of the firm’s guidelines, despite the fact that the company already has stringent limits in place for advertisements that feature specific categories of sexual content.

Any advertiser who promotes websites or applications that manufacture deepfake porn, that display instructions on how to develop deepfake porn, and that recommend or compare various deepfake porn services will be suspended without prior warning. It will also be impossible for them to publish their advertisements on Google in the future. Beginning on May 30th, the corporation will begin applying this regulation, and they are providing advertisers with the opportunity to remove any advertisement that is in violation of the new policy. It has been observed by 404 Media that the proliferation of deepfake technology has resulted in an increase in the amount of advertisements that promote tools that are aimed primarily at users who wish to make sexually explicit content. It has been reported that some of these tools even pretend to be trustworthy services in order to be featured on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. However, they are actually masking their true nature on social media platforms, where they tout their capacity to make pornographic content that has been modified.

On the other hand, Google has already begun to block services that develop deepfakes related to sexually explicit content in Shopping advertisements. The company has prohibited advertisements for shopping services that “generate, distribute, or store synthetic sexually explicit content or synthetic content containing nudity.” This is in line with the company’s forthcoming policy that will include a larger range of services. Deepfake porn lessons and pages that sell deepfake porn generators are examples of these kind of internet resources.
