It is said that the 4070 cards will get significantly larger performance increases than the RTX 4080 Super, which will only receive a very little upgrade.

Ahead of its anticipated “special address” at this year’s CES in Las Vegas, Nvidia is reportedly going to reveal multiple RTX Super GPUs. With two weeks to go until the event, regulatory filings from Nvidia’s partners are starting to surface, confirming some of the upcoming GPUs’ specifications: the RTX 4070 GPUs will receive a significant facelift, while the RTX 4080 Super will receive the most modest of upgrades. Pricing is still unknown, but we will find out soon enough.

This year’s theme for the entire show appears to be “AI innovations,” which is what Nvidia is expected to highlight during its January 8th presentation at 8 a.m. PST. In addition, the company is expected to unveil three new Super GPUs: the RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super, and RTX 4070 Super. Regulatory filings from MSI that Videocardz uncovered hint at what Nvidia has in store, and it looks like the RTX 4070 series cards will receive significant updates. The company is preparing 12 new GPUs for launch, which means that each SKU will have four of them available. Gigabyte is also teasing its upcoming GPUs, and it is anticipated to offer over thirty Super cards.

The most significant change will be to the GPU, which will now be called the RTX 4070 Ti Super. It will go from being a 12GB card with a 192-bit memory bus to a 16GB GPU with a 256-bit memory bus. It will also see a slight increase in CUDA cores, from 7680 to 8448. Power consumption is anticipated to stay the same at 285W, meaning that the GDDR6X memory speed will probably stay at 21Gb/s. The launch version of this card has an MSRP of $799, so it will be interesting to see if that stays the same in order to better position the Super version against the 20GB Radeon 7900 XT, which is priced around $779.

The RTX 4070 Super, which was originally priced at $599, looks to be getting a significant boost in CUDA core count, going from 5888 to 7168, a significant 21% increase. AMD’s RX 7800 XT, which is priced at $549, has put the RTX 4070 Super in danger, so it will be interesting to see what Nvidia does here as well.

The RTX 4080 Super, on the other hand, looks to be receiving the most low-key upgrade possible. Rather than moving to the larger AD102 die and receiving a memory bump as was previously rumoured, it will remain with AD103 and have the same memory configuration as its predecessor at 16GB. It is now purported to be receiving a small amount of additional CUDA cores, going from 9728 to 10240, which is about 5% more. Considering the minute changes, we can anticipate it to be available for the same $1,199 price point as the original card, though Nvidia could make it much more appealing by bringing the price down to $999.
