Soon, you won’t need an SMS passcode to log in.

Meta is implementing the same feature on iOS, some months after it introduced WhatsApp passkey logins to Android. In the upcoming weeks, the feature—which is now being rolled out by the company—will be accessible to all users.

Because they reduce the possibility of customers being tricked into disclosing their SMS passcode by con artists, passkeys are considered to be a more secure login technique. Alternatively, you can use biometrics, facial recognition, or a PIN that is saved on Apple’s passkey manager to validate a passkey in order to log in. Passkeys function by safely saving on your device an authentication credential that matches one that has been saved by the service you wish to access.

On iOS, open the Settings app, navigate to the Account section, and select Passkeys to enable passkeys for WhatsApp. “Passkey verification will simplify and strengthen WhatsApp’s relog process. Alice Newton-Rex, the head of product at WhatsApp, said in a statement, “We’re excited to launch this on WhatsApp and give users an extra layer of security.”
