According to the named tech founder, AI and the metaverse will now come together.
It had been over a year since Mark Zuckerberg made the audacious declaration that the firm that he had co-founded would be concentrating on artificial intelligence moving forward. The corporation had already gone through the process of changing its name to Meta and introducing the metaverse, but the most important thing at this point was artificial intelligence. Currently, Zuckerberg is increasing his efforts by revealing that Meta will be utilizing up to 350,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs by the end of this year in order to train its artificial intelligence models. This will result in Meta being the owner of one of the largest AI infrastructures throughout the entire planet.
Zuckerberg focused on his vision for the future while revealing the goals that his organization has for the future in a video that was posted on Instagram. In the brief video, he discusses artificial intelligence (AI) and the direction that he believes technology will go in the future. The most important thing to remember is that the fundamental objective of Meta is to enhance general intelligence (AGI) and make it open-source so that anyone can utilize it without risk. As part of this endeavor, he believes that Meta will “closer together” the two long-term artificial intelligence research projects that the business is working on (FAIR and GenAI) in order to accomplish this objective more quickly.
Zuckerberg then lays out his vision, adding that it has now become abundantly evident to him that the next generation of services would require artificial intelligence. He does this while wearing his future cap. This will result in the development of specialized artificial intelligences that can be used for a wide range of applications, such as general AI assistants, AIs for creators, AIs for business, and so on. To get there, Zuckerberg argues we will need to make advancements in every field of artificial intelligence, which necessitates the use of hardware to train both new and existing models.
In order to accomplish this, Zuckerberg has stated that by the end of this year, Meta will have 350,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs that are operating at full capacity. Furthermore, he has stated that the total power of Meta’s other GPUs will be equivalent to 600,000 H100 GPUs. According to him, the company is now training its Llama 3 model and has a plan of some of the future models that it will be responsible for teaching.
As we circle back around to the metaverse, Zuckerberg has stated that in order to connect with these artificial intelligences, we would require new equipment. This is where the Ray-Ban smart glasses come into play. In the future, he believes that all of us will be conversing with artificial intelligences throughout the day, and the most effective method to do so is by wearing a pair of glasses. He makes the observation that glasses are the ideal medium for interacting with artificial intelligence since they are able to see what you see and hear what you hear, in addition to enabling you to communicate with the assistant.
His ideas on the possibilities of artificial intelligence appear to be anchored in reality, at least as it exists in the early year 2024, despite the fact that we have all shared numerous laughs at Zuckerberg’s expense over his metaverse achievements. The term “artificial intelligence” (AI) has become the latest buzzword in the industry, and Meta is eager to be at the lead of this emerging technical frontier. It is anyone’s estimate as to whether or not it will be able to accomplish that, and it is also unknown how the influence of that will be seen in our lives in the coming years; but, the corporation is unquestionably laying a significant wager that artificial intelligence will be the next big thing in computing.
