With this plan, you can get rid of (most of) the advertisements for a price that is half as much.
The Premium Lite subscription tier on YouTube is now undergoing a test of a redesign. This past week, screenshots from users were shared on various social media platforms, and today, a representative from Google confirmed to a number of different media sources that the strategy is currently being tested in the countries of Australia, Germany, and Thailand. There would be “limited ads” in this new edition, which the fine print states as meaning that the majority of videos would be free of advertisements. However, there would be video advertisements on music material and Shorts, as well as non-interruptive advertisements when you search and browse.
2021 marked the beginning of the testing phase for the original Premium Lite membership in Europe; however, it was only available for a short period of time before the video platform decided to remove the option in October of 2023. The only advantage of the plan was that it eliminated all advertisements; it did not provide the offline or background viewing features that are available with the regular Premium service.
According to the information that we were able to obtain, the pricing plan in Australia is $9 per month for Premium Lite, while the full Premium access is $17 per month. The prices of the original Lite plan, which were around half the rate of a normal plan, are comparable to those of the current plan. When considering the current prices of a YouTube membership, which are $14 per month for an individual and $23 per month for the family option, it is possible that having a choice that falls somewhere in the middle could be enticing.
