A new, device-neutral mobile operating system will take the place of the current, 13-year-old version.
As it gets ready to launch a more all-encompassing operating system, Xiaomi is bidding goodbye to MIUI, its mobile-only user interface. Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun revealed that the business will introduce MIUI’s replacement with the launching of a new smartphone in 2019.
The brand-new OS is known as HyperOS. HyperOS will cover the entirety of Xiaomi’s ecosystem rather than only concentrating on the mobile experience. With a single interface that works for drones, smart watches, smart homes, auto infotainment, and more, the Beijing-based tech behemoth will be able to cover each of its 200 product categories. The Xiaomi 14, which is anticipated to debut in China in December and go global in the first quarter of next year, will be the first gadget to have HyperOS. According to Xiaomi vice president Alvin Tse, HyperOS would “gradually replace MIUI” after then throughout 2024.
Lei stated on Weibo, “We started experimental development and verification in 2014, when the IoT business started to take shape. “A new system’s research and development were formally initiated in 2017 with the goal of supporting all ecological devices and applications through an integrated system architecture. This is what we’re after.
According to Lei, the “deeply evolved” Android operating system, which has evolved over the past 20 years from a digital camera and smartphone interface to one used on hundreds of other product kinds, is the foundation of HyperOS. The CEO claims that the successor to MIUI will create a “public base for the Internet of Everything” and support “tens of billions of connections in the future.”
Those who are sick of the legacy interface may find solace in the announcement of MIUI’s retirement. It’s reasonable that some customers could be looking for a refresh and something that works across more than just mobile devices, even if MIUI has reliably provided an iOS-like experience to Android users for 13 years.
Xiaomi hasn’t yet released any HyperOS previews, so it’s unclear how the new operating system will seem. As the Xiaomi 14 release approaches, additional details will probably become available.
