Calling was restricted to Premium customers at the time of the feature’s debut.
By gradually introducing audio and video calling to users who do not pay for its premium subscription service, which was formerly known as Twitter Blue, X is gradually expanding its user base. The information was disseminated on the site by Enrique Barragan, who is an engineer working for the company. The function was initially introduced by the firm for iOS users in the previous year. It provided paying customers with the opportunity to make phone calls to other individuals through the application. This was a step towards making X the “everything” application that Elon Musk envisions it to be. At the beginning of this year, the feature was made available to Android devices; however, the ability to make calls was still restricted to Premium customers only.
Musk has stated that X will make audio-video calling accessible to all users by the end of January, as soon as the business develops the confidence that technology is capable of functioning effectively. When we tap the phone symbol in direct messages, we are still being prompted to subscribe to X Premium in order to be able to make calls. However, individuals who receive the update will be able to make calls even if they are not a paying customer. It is now stated on the official X support page for the function that all accounts are able to make and receive calls; however, in order for this to happen, both parties must have communicated with one another over Direct Messaging at least once. In the past, it was just stated that “Premium subscribers have the ability to make audio and video calls.”
Barragan disclosed that users will now have the option to take calls from anyone on the app if they so desire. This was in addition to the announcement that the functionality would be rolled out. When we checked the Settings menu of our direct messages, we saw that audio and video calls had been automatically activated for us. This was for the fortunate reason that we are only able to receive calls from people that we follow. In spite of this, we are already noticing that the “Everyone” option is present, and it is prepared to be selected by the most daring users of software.
