Samsung has officially shown off the Galaxy Ring in actual form at Mobile World Conference (MWC 2024), after teasing it (again) yesterday. Additionally, the company has disclosed some additional facts about the wearable device. Platinum silver, gold, and ceramic black are the three colours that will be available for the piece of equipment, which will, of course, be centred around health and wellness. In the latter part of this year, it is scheduled to be made available for purchase.
At Unpacked, which took place a month ago, Samsung presented a render of the Galaxy Ring for the first time. However, the company did not speak much about the item. The only thing we understood at the time was that it would be a wearable device with a focus on wellness that would compete with Oura and that it would contain a collection of sensors that we did not know about.
In spite of the fact that journalists were not permitted to take photographs of it today, Samsung has provided more images that reveal it to be a chonky, concave ring that is around the same size as the Oura, as shown in the image that has been provided below. Given the electronics that are concealed therein, the additional circumference is not surprising.
However, The Verge said that it was lighter than anticipated and that it will be available in sizes ranging from 5 to 13, with the sizes being listed inside the band as S through XL. The size of the battery, which can range anywhere from 14.5 mAh to 21.5 mAh, means that the amount of time that passes between charges will also change depending on the size. The Oura has a battery life that is unknown, although it can go up to seven days without needing to be charged.
According to a blog post written by Samsung Vice President Dr. Hon Pak, the ring will monitor the user’s heart rate, movement, and breathing while they are sleeping, and it will then offer recommendations to the user based on the information it gathers. In addition, the firm will collect information from its partner Natural Cycles, which already provides fertility tracking on the Galaxy Watch, which is a feature that is an essential component of Oura.
A new function that will be available on the Galaxy Ring is called My Vitality Score. This tool will assess alertness and let users to determine whether or not they are performing at their peak. “Booster Cards” will be used to provide feedback, which will include scientifically informed recommendations based on the data collected by the device, including sleep and other data.
The Galaxy Ring will be compatible with the Galaxy Watch and will be a part of the ecosystem that Samsung has created for its health services. This indicates that you will be able to utilise both devices simultaneously to monitor your health, which will result in the collection of data of a greater quality. To put it into perspective, one of the benefits of wearing a ring is that it is significantly less bothersome to sleep with it.
More information, such as the precise sensor suite, pricing, and the date of sale, will be revealed to us in the coming months. Initially, the Galaxy Ring will only be compatible with Samsung Galaxy phones; however, the business has plans to expand its compatibility to include more Android devices in the future. However, Pak stated that the compatibility with iOS has not yet been determined.
