It is still Blizzard’s intention to repeat the fan event in upcoming years.
Fans of World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch who were hoping to meet up at BlizzCon in November may be unhappy to hear that Blizzard has decided to postpone this year’s gathering. The publisher stated that the decision was “not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it,” but it did not provide a clear explanation for its choice.
However, unlike E3, BlizzCon is not definitely over. Blizzard stated on its blog, “Even though we are approaching this year differently and have experimented with numerous event models in the past, rest assured that we are just as thrilled as ever to bring BlizzCon back in future years.”
At other events, such industry trade conferences and Gamescom, the publisher intends to provide details regarding expansions for major properties, including the impending three-part WoW story and Diablo IV DLC. Since Blizzard is now a part of Microsoft, we might anticipate hearing some news from the publisher at the June annual Xbox reveal. In-person celebrations of Warcraft’s 30th anniversary and Overwatch esports are also planned.
Being unable to attend BlizzCon in person in 2024 may be disappointing for many fans given it was the first in-person event since 2019. It looks like they will not be able to get together with many of their colleagues and Blizzard developers until late 2025 at the latest.
