To remove advertising, you will need to pay an additional $3 per month on top of your subscription.

Amazon has begun informing Prime Video users that they are need to pay an additional fee if they do not wish to have their viewing experience interrupted by advertisements whenever they are watching content. Through an email that was sent to subscribers, the company announced that beginning on January 29, it will begin displaying “limited advertisements” alongside the movies and shows that are available through its service. Individuals who wish to maintain their accounts without advertisements will be need to pay an additional fee of $3 per month in addition to their Prime subscription or their Prime Video membership that costs $9 per month on its own.

The corporation made the first announcement in September that it was going to begin serving advertisements alongside its content, and that the initial regions that will be affected are the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Canada. Beginning in the latter half of the next year, consumers in France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia will be required to choose between paying an additional fee or enduring the advertising that are served to them. Amazon stated at the time that it is working toward the goal of “having meaningfully fewer advertisements than linear TV and other streaming TV providers.” According to Variety, at the time, four minutes per hour appeared to be the lowest amount of commercial time for a streaming network. This is despite the fact that “meaningfully fewer” is considered to be somewhat ambiguous.

A reminder of this objective was included in the email that Amazon delivered to its members. In addition, it said that the incorporation of advertisements into its service and the charging of a higher fee for a watching experience that is free of advertisements will enable the company to invest “in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time.” The business informed customers that they will begin to see advertisements on their screens automatically by the end of January and provided a link to a website where they can pay to access content without advertisements. Amazon has stated that it will not be displaying advertisements alongside content that has been rented or paid in a website that provides information about the change. In addition, it was said that areas such as Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, Guam, the Mariana Islands, and American Samoa are not included in the deployment at this time.
