It will be an optional feature.
Users of Threads might soon have another option for organising their timelines. According to Adam Mosseri, the app is testing a new archive function that allows users to either manually archive specific posts or have messages automatically hidden after a predetermined amount of time.
Similar to Instagram, Threads archiving conceals a post from public view while preserving the original author’s ability to access and edit the post. According to the director of Instagram, the feature will first be accessible to a “small number of people.” Although it’s optional, Mosseri has made it clear that he prefers all posts on the service to have a temporary nature. “After about a month, I think we should switch to automatically archiving posts on Threads.”written back in February in a post.
However, a majority of Threads users indicated they would “never” want their postings to be automatically hidden from public view in a poll that was linked with that earlier post. In his most recent report, Mosseri stated that the corporation will initially experiment with archiving “as an option” because “the resounding feedback was not to make this the default.”
While saving older photos is a common feature on Instagram, it might be a little more contentious on Threads. Posts that automatically archive could make it more difficult to go back and reread the original source of an update as the site expands and adds more features focused on real-time information. (For instance, Mosseri frequently discusses his growing opinions on Threads, a forum where it would be more harder to follow his evolving thoughts if he were to automatically archive all of his previous postings.) Simultaneously, making posts temporary encourages users to share them more frequently, which is even more crucial for Threads’ continuous expansion.
