Beta versions of the feature are being evaluated, and it may launch in early 2024.
Nothing compares to the experience of installing Windows for the first time and finding that everything functions exactly as it should. On the other hand, that never lasts. It is possible that reinstalling Windows is the only way to resolve all of the niggling problems that might accumulate over time; but, doing so without erasing all of your files can be an incredibly difficult and frustrating process. There have been reports that Microsoft is working on a simpler technique that will allow users to reinstall the operating system directly via Windows Update.
The feature in question has been given the name “Fix Problems using Windows Update,” which is a name that is both instructive and cumbersome. Over the course of the summer, it was first introduced in an Insiders build, which offered the option to reinstall the operating system from the system recovery menu. It is explained in the menu that this option will reinstall the same version of Windows that you are now using, and it will do so without losing any of the files or programmes that you have installed on your computer. Before you can reinstall, you might be required to finish any updates that are still outstanding. This is the sole caveat.
At this time, it is possible to carry out the operational procedure on your own; however, doing so will demand considerable physical exertion. If you want to create bootable Windows installation media, you will need to utilise the Windows Media Creation Tool. In this day and age, a flash drive is typically accepted as the medium of choice. In order to keep your files, you will need to make sure that you do an upgrade that is performed in-place. It is possible that you will inadvertently delete some or all of your data if you do not select the appropriate option. A single button is all that is required to perform the reinstallation of Windows Update, so there is no room for error.
In addition, the majority of personal computers come with a reset button that, when selected, would return the device to its factory settings, erasing all of your data. By using this method, the personal computer will function just as it did when it was first purchased, including any obnoxious bloatware that the manufacturer may have installed. According to Windows Latest, the reinstallation of Windows Update will download the stock build of Windows, which does not include any of the programmes that are developed by third-party developers.
Since the feature was discretely included to a support document in July 2023, Microsoft has not made any mention of it during this time. This document was discovered by Windows Latest, and the option may be found in some of the beta builds of Windows Insider. But at the moment, it is not functioning properly. It has been speculated by Windows Latest that Microsoft might decide to implement this feature with the forthcoming “Windows 11 Moment 5” update, which is anticipated to take place in either February or March of 2024.
