Huawei’s first laptop with AI was launched last month.

According to a report by the Financial Times, the United States has taken more measures to restrict China’s technical growth by canceling licenses that enabled Intel and Qualcomm to purchase and sell processors to Huawei Technologies. Both the chips that Huawei uses for its PCs and mobile phones will be affected by this decision, which will take effect immediately.

Since 2019, Huawei has been included on lists of companies that are subject to trade restrictions in the United States. However, the company has lately made advancements that have caused the United States government to be concerned, such as the artificial intelligence-enabled laptop that was released last month. According to the statement, “We continually evaluate how our controls can best protect our national security and foreign policy interests, taking into consideration a threat environment and technological landscape that is constantly changing.” According to a statement made by a representative for the Department of Commerce, “We sometimes revoke export licenses as part of this process, just as we have done in the past.” A spokeswoman for Huawei declined to comment on whether or not additional companies were affected by the incident. “But we can confirm that we have revoked certain licenses for exports to Huawei.”

There have been allegations made by national security specialists that Huawei is assisting China in its cyber espionage activities. “China resolutely opposes the United States overstretching the concept of national security and abusing export controls to suppress Chinese companies without justification,” the Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement. “China is firmly opposed to the situation.” In addition, Huawei refutes the allegations of espionage.
