It promises less phony-looking bokeh and more natural portrait pictures.
There was a time when manufacturers of smartphones rushed to make claims about quad-cameras. The majority of these manufacturers did so by including a subpar fourth camera, which was typically used for taking macro photographs, if not include a monochrome filter or a depth sensor. At this point in time, however, we are fortunate enough to have legitimate quad “main” cameras on some flagship phones; thus, manufacturers need to be more inventive in order to differentiate themselves even more. The decision made by Oppo to incorporate not just one but two periscope telephoto cameras into its new Find X7 Ultra, which is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, represents a significant departure from the triple camera system that was present on the previous edition.
Oppo claims that the “HyperTone Camera System” of the Find X7 Ultra has a resolution of 50 megapixels across all four rear Hasselblad cameras. This accomplishment is made possible by the relatively large sensors of the Hasselblad cameras in comparison to those of the remaining competitors. In terms of power consumption and thermal performance, the LYT-900, which is Sony’s second-generation 1-inch sensor, is more efficient than its predecessor. The main imager is equipped with this sensor. An aperture of f/1.8, optical image stabilization (OIS), a focal length of 23 millimeters, and a reduction of fifty percent in lens reflection are all additional features that complement this. This ultra-wide camera is one of the fastest shooters in its category since it has a Sony LYT-600 sensor that measures 1/1.95 inches and has an aperture of f/2.0. This comes with a focal length similar to 14 millimeters and a focus distance that is as close as 4 centimeters.
The two periscope telephoto cameras are the only ones that remain after that. A Sony IMX980 sensor measuring 1/1.56 inches is used in the first one, which has a 3x optical zoom. According to reports, this sensor is “roughly three times larger than” the competitors. In addition, you will receive a feature known as “Prism OIS,” a focal length of 65 millimeters, and a focus distance of 25 centimeters, which is useful for taking portraits and product photographs. With a focal length of 135 millimeters, a focus distance of 35 centimeters, and a prism optical image stabilization system, we have a periscope that is equipped with a 6x optical zoom and is powered by a 1/2.51-inch Sony IMX858 sensor. Oppo claims that its Find X7 Ultra is capable of handling a versatile equivalent focal length range of 14mm to 270mm, and it even has an artificial intelligence-enhanced zoom of 12x.
In addition, Oppo asserts that it has made significant advancements in the field of mobile photography here. Most significantly, it has now released its “HyperTone Image Engine,” which is meant to improve the outcomes of computational photography for high dynamic range (HDR) and also prevent over-exposure and over-sharpening. It appears that this was in the process of being developed for a period of two years, with contributions from color specialists and professional photographers. A representative remarked that it is all about “merging objective quality together with subjective emotional,” and this is exactly what it is. Additionally, depending on the compatibility of the devices, the HyperTone Image Engine will soon be made available for use on some of the existing Oppo handsets, specifically the Find N and Reno series.
Other areas that have been improved include the quality consistency across the zoom range (particularly in low-light environments), as well as the ability to take portraits that are more realistic thanks to the new “Hasselblad Portrait Mode.” Oppo boldly boasts to produce “cinematic bokeh with foreground and background depth,” with a breathtaking accuracy down to a single strand of hair, and as an added bonus, little shutter lag. This is in contrast to the latter, which results in bokeh that appears to be fake and poor edge recognition.
A new “Hasselblad Master Mode” is also being made available by Oppo. This mode is modeled after the capabilities of the medium format mirrorless camera known as the Hasselblad X2D 100C. In addition to other shooting capabilities such as manual ISO, shutter speed, exposure value, focus, and white balance, you have the ability to experiment with the saturation, contrast, sharpness, and vignette control to create the style that best corresponds to your preferences. This Master Mode also allows “RAW MAX” capture, which supports 13 stops of dynamic range and 16-bit color depth in BT2020 color space for each 50-megapixel still image. Unfortunately, this feature is not yet available until an over-the-air update is released.
The Find X7 Ultra is available in three different color options: “Ocean Blue,” “Sepia Brown,” and “Tailored Black.” Each of these color options features a cover made of vegan leather, and the black version also includes decorative stitches. In spite of the fact that it has an additional periscope camera, a generous 5,000mah battery, and capability for wireless charging (within sixty minutes when using fifty watts; double that for one hundred watts for SuperVOOC wired charging), this gadget actually has a weight and thickness that are comparable to those of the Find X6 Pro. This is because the wireless charging coil has been made thinner, vegan leather has been made thinner, and the architecture of the logic board stack has been improved. Using “single-sided magnets,” Oppo was also able to keep the entire rear camera module tightly packed. This was done in order to prevent interference between the three pieces of the optical image stabilization system.
In addition, this new phone comes equipped with Oppo’s most brilliant ever QHD (3,168 x 1,440) panel, which has a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits when used outside and a local peak brightness of 4,500 nits when used for high dynamic range (HDR) applications. In addition to the standard 120Hz refresh rate and ultra-low touch latency, this 6.82-inch AMOLED panel also features “rain water touch” compatibility for wet hands (it has an IP68 designation for protection to dust and water). The three-stage slider is here to stay, but it has been repurposed as a “VIP slider” that allows users to easily change the notification mode or disable access to the camera, location, and microphone for a mode that provides the highest level of privacy.
According to our surprise, Oppo does not currently have any intentions to launch the Find X7 Ultra outside of China. As a result, you will need to obtain one from an importer in order to purchase it. The price of this model ranges from 5,999 yuan (about $845) with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage to 6,999 yuan (approximately $990) with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. Hopefully, this information is helpful. Now is the time to place your pre-order for any of these three selections, which will be available for retail purchase on January 12th. Late in the month of March, there will also be a special version that will be available with support for satellite calls; however, the price was not specified.
There is a simple model of the Find X7 that is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9300 processor. This model is available for individuals who are on a budget yet still want the same elaborate appearance. Only three cameras are included on the rear of the device: a 50-megapixel primary shooter (presumably with Sony’s 1/1.4-inch LYT-T808 sensor; f/2.0; optical image stabilization), a 64-megapixel 3x periscope zoom camera (f/2.6; Prism OIS; 1/2-inch sensor), and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera (f/2.0; 119 degrees). Additionally, it sports an OLED screen that is somewhat smaller at 6.78 inches and has a resolution that is lower at 2,780 by 1,264. It should come as no surprise that this model does not include a VIP slider option.
With a starting price of 3,999 yuan (about $560), the Find X7 provides 12GB of random access memory (RAM) together with 256GB of storage space. Its maximum price is 4,999 yuan (approximately $700) for its 16GB RAM and 1TB storage capacity. In addition to the “Ocean Blue” and “Sepia Brown” styles, you might also take into consideration the purple and black alternatives, both of which come with a glass back.
