Soon, players of the PlayStation 5 will be able to initiate Discord calls directly from their system, without the need for an app.
Discord and Sony have made an announcement that they would be implementing a feature that will allow PlayStation 5 owners to initiate audio chats on Discord directly from their consoles. Discord was previously accessible on next-generation Sony consoles, but through a relatively cumbersome process that required participants to physically transfer the call by using the appropriate application on their mobile device or personal computer.
Whenever you wish to initiate a call through Discord, navigate to the Game Base section of the Control Center on your PlayStation 5 and select the Discord tab. You will be able to see a list of servers that you are a part of once you have logged in. You will also be able to see who is in a voice channel and immediately join it. In a similar vein, if another person is attempting to initiate a Discord call with you, you will be able to join the session as soon as your PlayStation 5 makes the notification available to you.
Almost two years ago, Sony and Discord worked together to bring the chat platform to the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. In those days, individuals were only able to view the games that their friends were participating in.
Beginning with the regions of Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East, the new voice chat feature that is available on Discord will be gradually rolled out to PlayStation 5 consoles over the next few weeks’ time. It is not known when the Americas will be the final region to come into possession of it; however, this is the case.
