As we move closer to the new year, some users of Google Messages are reporting that they are unable to plan sends beyond the year 2024. However, this is not the case for all users.

In recent days, some individuals who have been scheduling messages, such as “happy new year,” have discovered that when they swipe through the calendar, they are unable to pick anyone or anything that occurs after today. In the Google Messages selector, those future days are grayed out; but, for some reason, the option to schedule send is open for the 31st of December in 2024.

Although you might try manually entering a date using the keyboard, you will not be successful because the message “Date now allowed” would appear in red.

By utilizing the “Tomorrow, 8:00 AM” preset as a last option, those who are experiencing this difficulty can have some amount of success. Once we are in the year 2024, we will need to determine whether or not this problem still exists. Beta updates are scheduled to start the following week, after the holiday break has ended, in order to address this matter.

Other Android applications, such as Gmail, provide a date picker and scheduling capabilities; however, this issue does not affect those applications.

Despite the fact that we have been able to reproduce the problem on one of our devices that is running the most recent beta release, there are just a few reports of this happening. On the other hand, it works well on a different phone that is also running the Messages preview, and not all users are affected by this bothersome glitch at the moment.
