It has been reported in The Verge that the glasses will be presented to the public the following month.
According to a new rumor that was published in The Verge, Snap is getting set to unveil a brand new pair of augmented reality glasses. In addition to becoming the second pair of glasses to be equipped with augmented reality capabilities, the glasses would be of the fifth generation of Spectacles. According to reports, the glasses will be presented to the public for the first time during the next Partner Summit event that will take place on September 17th.
The most recent pair of augmented reality glasses that the company released was in the year 2021. The glasses were never made available to anybody other than a select group of designers and developers. These individuals were the ones that came up with some fascinating experiments that employed Snapchat’s lenses in conjunction with the augmented reality displays. However, during my hands-on experience with augmented reality-enabled glasses that year, I observed that the equipment was still somewhat restricted. The field of view was severely limited, and the battery life was only thirty minutes from start to finish. In addition, the glasses were far more cumbersome and boxier in comparison to earlier iterations of Spectacles, which appeared to be more similar to conventional sunglasses.
It would appear that Snap has made some enhancements to the technology that is at the core of the platform. It has been reported by The Verge that the most recent glasses would have a more expansive field of view and a longer endurance battery. On the other hand, it appears that the Spectacles are still being marketed as a device specifically designed for developers rather than as something that any Snapchat user will be able to purchase. According to reports, the production of each pair will cost “thousands of dollars,” and Snap intends to produce “fewer than 10,000” of them.
In spite of this, it offers the impression that Snap has not completely abandoned its hardware aspirations. The $250 Pixy selfie drone was the company’s final new product, and it was discontinued in 2022, just four months after it had been introduced to the market. In the beginning of this year, the manufacturer removed the product from the market after a battery fire was reported.
