In 2023, Apple terminated its over ten-year run.
In 2023, Apple momentarily surpassed Samsung in terms of the number of global smartphone shipments; however, Samsung has since regained its position as the market leader. According to preliminary data from the Mobile Phone Tracker of the International Data Corporation (IDC) for the first quarter of 2024, Samsung has reclaimed the lead it has had since 2010.
According to reports, Samsung carried out a total of 60.1 million units across the globe during the first quarter, which accounts for 20.8 percent of the market share. There were 50.1 million devices supplied by Apple, which represents 17.3 percent of the market share. Compared to the first quarter of 2023, both firms had a decline; however, Apple’s decline was significantly more dramatic (-9.6 percent) than Samsung’s fall (-0.7 percent). During the first quarter of 2023, the top five brands stayed the same as they were throughout the entire year. Xiaomi took the top spot with 40.8 million units delivered, followed by Transsion with 28.5 million units, and OPPO with 25.2 million units shipped. Transsion moved up to fourth place, passing OPPO in the process.
According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), these data are a sign that the market for smartphones is growing stronger. “To begin, we are continuing to observe an increase in value and average selling prices (ASPs) thanks to the fact that consumers are choosing more expensive products with the knowledge that they would have them for a longer period of time. “Second, there is a shift in power among the Top 5 companies, which is likely to continue as market players adjust their strategies in a world that has recovered from the economic crisis,” said Nabila Popal, research director with the Worldwide Tracker team at IDC, in a statement. “Transsion is establishing a stable presence in the Top 5 with aggressive expansion in international markets, and Xiaomi is making a great comeback from the significant declines that it has endured over the course of the past two years. Samsung, on the other hand, appears to be in a healthier position overall than they were in during the most recent quarters, despite the fact that both of the top two players had negative growth during the first quarter.
