This holiday season, there will be two events as part of the three-year arrangement.
Netflix is making significant progress in the realm of live sports after having previously experimented with live sports by hosting exhibitions of golf and tennis. The company has reached an agreement with the National Football League (NFL) to broadcast a doubleheader on Christmas Day. This will be the first time that the company will show games from the league. During the years 2025 and 2026, Netflix will also stream at least one holiday game simultaneously. There will be no blackouts for these games in the home markets of the clubs who are competing.
According to reports that surfaced the previous week, Netflix was reportedly considering hosting NFL games on Christmas Day. It appears that this was the reason why the league decided to postpone the announcement of its 2024 schedule until today (when Netflix is attempting to win over sponsors at its upfront presentation). To this purpose, it is not yet apparent which NFL teams will be the first to compete live on Netflix throughout the world; however, we will find out when the league reveals the schedule at eight o’clock Eastern Time (ET).
Obviously, Netflix is not the first streaming provider to make NFL games available to their subscribers. For years, Prime Video has been broadcasting them, while YouTube is the platform where NFL Sunday Ticket is most commonly found.
And this is not Netflix’s first excursion into the National Football League in its entirety. Quarterback was a hit unscripted series that debuted the previous year and followed Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota during the 2022 season. With the arrival of Receiver this summer, a follow-up performance that is self-explanatory will be available.
Before we get to Christmas Day and the first NFL games that Netflix will stream, the business will show a boxing event that features Mike Tyson and Logan Paul, a battle that is now officially recognized as a professional bout. Due to the fact that Netflix will begin showing live WWE content every week beginning in January, the Christmas NFL games will also serve as something of a warmup for the digital streaming service.
