If we bring out the changes gradually, would there be less glue pizza?
At the same time as Microsoft is moving forward with additional tools for Bing, the competition to bring more artificial intelligence elements to search is intensifying. These previews for Bing generative search were launched today by the firm. In this feature, the top result for a user’s query will be an original response that was compiled by artificial intelligence.
A few examples of the results were displayed in the blog article that discussed Bing’s generative search. In addition to the statement that provides an overview, Microsoft will also give links to the primary sources that the large-language models and the small-language models utilized in order to develop their specific answer. It will also have a part that contains information that is connected. In the case of the example question “how long do elephants live,” for example, the primary summary is followed by films that contain information about the elements that influence the longevity of elephants. After the outcomes of the generative process have been revealed, the typical list of search hits will be shown.
It’s possible that you won’t be able to experiment with generative search right away if you’re interested in trying it out. Not only is this not now an opt-in choice for Bing users, but it is also only being applied to “a small percentage of user queries” at this point in time. “We are slowly rolling this out and will take our time, garner feedback, test and learn, and work to create a great experience before making this more broadly available,” Microsoft stated in its announcement.
AI Overview is a product that Google released earlier this year in an effort to retain customers who might otherwise go directly to an AI chatbot for answers to their questions. This tool is identical to the one that Google has been using. The beginning of AI Overview was a rocky and sticky pizza, so it will be interesting to watch how well Microsoft’s counterpart performs in compared to how well AI Overview started. And while Microsoft did underline in the blog post that it built generative search without the intention of harming the business of web publishers, it is important to reiterate that this kind of artificial intelligence tool is not a replacement for true news.
