IDA, the voice assistant that the corporation already had, is compatible with this product.

There are now a number of Volkswagen cars that are compatible with ChatGPT. These include all of the electric ID family vehicles, as well as the new Golf, Tiguan, and Passat from Volkswagen. This integration is now only taking place in Europe, but it will shortly be implemented in North America.

What does this entail in its entirety? ChatGPT has been incorporated into Volkswagen’s own voice assistant, IDA, in order to enhance the service and offer additional capabilities. This is similar to the way that Apple is managing its own cooperation with OpenAI’s platform. This means that clients are able to communicate with the vehicle more effectively by utilizing normal language, which enables the assistant to “answer questions about a variety of topics.” The incorporation of ChatGPT should make everything run a little bit more smoothly, despite the fact that IDA was already capable of handling voice-controlled climate adjustments and navigation.

The upgraded voice assistant, according to Volkswagen, is also capable of providing information on tourist destinations, reporting on football games, and assisting with the resolution of mathematical issues. Simply put, it is a car version of ChatGPT that can be used for everything that the standard version can do. Volkswagen claims that when they use this service, drivers will never have to take their eyes off the road. This is with the intention of doing anything.

In terms of privacy, the business claims that a query is only transmitted to the cloud if it is unable to be handled by IDA, which is similar to the way that Apple Intelligence operates. ChatGPT does not obtain any of your vehicle information because the question is transmitted in an anonymous fashion. Additionally, it is possible to completely deactivate it by going to the settings section of the Volkswagen app.

During our time at CES a few months ago, we experimented with this feature and came away feeling a little perplexed but also fascinated. However, we discovered that the technology did not significantly improve the overall driving experience; however, it could be an extremely helpful tool for passengers. Although it was able to tell us a pleasant story about a dinosaur, it had difficulty answering contemporary questions such as basketball scores. In a nutshell, it ought to keep the children occupied while out on road trips.

An integration of ChatGPT is going to be released in the United States with 2025 automobiles, and shortly after that, it will be made available worldwide. The fact that it is also available in languages other than English is always a pleasant surprise at the same time. It is possible for the system to process German, Czech, and Spanish.
