The rumor is that it is transmitted through direct communication.
According to Forbes, a new hack is currently making its way through TikTok, and it has already compromised the official accounts of a number of celebrities, including Paris Hilton, CNN, and other more. Aside from opening the chat, it is disseminated through direct messages and does not require any kind of download, click, or response other than entering the chat. At the moment, it is not known how many accounts have been impacted by this issue.
Is it even stranger? The accounts that have been hacked are not actually doing anything. According to a source within TikTok, the accounts that were affected “do not appear to be posting content.” Forbes reported this information. The Verge received a response from TikTok in which the company stated that it is “aware of a potential exploit targeting a number of brand and celebrity accounts.” A statement from the social media company said that they are “working directly with affected account owners to restore access.”
According to a recent revelation by Semafor, CNN’s TikTok platform had been compromised, which resulted in the network being compelled to disable the account. Uncertainty exists around whether or not this is the same hack that has been responsible for infecting other high-profile accounts. When asked about the situation, the news organization stated that it was “working with TikTok on the backend on additional security measures.”
In an interview with Semafor, members of the CNN team stated that the news organization had “grown lax” with regard to digital safety standards. One of the employees mentioned that hundreds of their coworkers had access to the official TikTok account. On the other hand, a different network source stated that the breach was not the consequence of someone gaining access from CNN’s end. So far, it is the extent of our knowledge. When additional information becomes available, we will update this post.
Undoubtedly, this is not the first major hacking attempt on TikTok. In the year 2023, the firm admitted that about 700,000 accounts in Turkey had been compromised as a result of unsecured SMS routes that were linked with their two-factor authentication. In the year 2022, researchers working for Microsoft identified a weakness that made it possible for hackers to take control of accounts with only a single click. Additionally, in the latter part of that same year, it was stated that a security compromise affected more than one billion people.
