Production is scheduled to begin in the middle of 2025.
A compact crossover electric vehicle (EV) with the codename “Redwood” is apparently in the works at Tesla, and manufacturing is scheduled to begin in June 2025, according to persons familiar with the topic informed Reuters. It was claimed that the business had filed requests for quotes to suppliers for the new model in the previous year, with the expectation of a weekly manufacturing volume of around 10,000 vehicles.
The claim coincides with statements made by Elon Musk during a shareholder meeting in May 2023, in which he stated that Tesla was working on two new electric vehicle models that could sell a combined total of up to 5 million units annually. “Both the design of the products and manufacturing techniques are head and shoulders above anything else that is present in the industry,” he stated at the point in time.
Musk initially abandoned the concept of a $25,000 car, but he later brought it back to life due to the strong level of consumer demand in the Model 3 (the most affordable model is $38,990). Tesla has also been promising a $25,000 car for some time. According to Reuters’ sources, however, the price of the car that is scheduled to arrive in 2025 was not mentioned.
The news comes at a moment that is convenient for Tesla, since the firm has recently been under fire from critics who accuse it of lounging on its laurels with the comparatively outdated designs of the Model 3 and the Y. One of the issues that investors voted on the most during Tesla’s earnings call, which is scheduled to take place this afternoon (January 24), was about the timetable of any new electric vehicles.
In the event that the new automobiles live up to Musk’s description, they might be able to alleviate such anxieties. At the same time, Tesla is beginning to ship its Cybertruck EV, which has been met with a variety of responses from customers. While some customers have expressed dissatisfaction with the vehicle’s quality, others have praised its performance and praised its chutzpah.
