Each of the Bear and Beef won three prizes.
Following a year that was marked by strikes in the entertainment sector, the Golden Globes of 2024 symbolized a return to normalcy among the industry. Netflix, Hulu, and Max were the recipients of a combined total of twelve television awards, demonstrating that streaming services continued to receive recognition for their productions.
The most accolades were won by Max (formerly known as HBO Max), which received four prizes for the last season of Succession. One of these wins was for best drama television series. Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin, who played the roles of Roman and Shiv Roy, respectively, in the series, were awarded the award for receiving the best performance by an actress and an actor in that category. Matthew Macfayden was the recipient of the prize for the greatest performance by an actor in a supporting character on television, which completed off the list of accomplishments that Succession achieved. In addition to being able to be viewed on television directly on HBO, Succession is also accessible to watch through Max.
A variety of shows, including The Crown, which debuted its last season at the end of the year, were among those that Netflix was awarded for. In recognition of her portrayal of Princess Diana, Elizabeth Debecki, who plays the Crown, was awarded the prize for the greatest performance by an actress in a supporting role on television. For his performance in Ricky Gervais: Armageddon, Ricky Gervais was awarded the award for best performance in stand-up comedy on television. Three prizes were presented to Beef, including one for best performance by an actress (Ali Wong) and one for best performance by an actor (Steven Yeun) in a limited series, anthology series, or special series made for television. Also, it was awarded the title of best overall in that area. Because of the choice of actor David Choe, who had previously published accounts depicting alleged sexual assaults, the production was steeped in controversy. Additionally, the silence surrounding Choe was a source of criticism.
It was The Bear, which was produced by FX and won the prize for best musical or comedic television series, that was responsible for Hulu’s three Oscars. The two performers who played the lead roles in the program, Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White, were awarded the award for the best performance in a musical or comedic television series by an actress and the award for the best ensemble cast.
