It is rumoured that WhatsApp is developing a new feature that would allow users to communicate with one other without disclosing their phone number.

The messaging programme WhatsApp is one of the most commonly used messaging applications in the world, and each day, billions of people engage with one another through the usage of WhatsApp. Having said that, we have all been in situations where we were required to send a text message to an unknown person on WhatsApp, but we were not very interested in giving them our phone number. Take, for example, the scenario in which you have called a taxi and the driver has requested that you disclose your location with them. However, you do not want them to have access to the phone number that is associated with WhatsApp.

It would appear that the instant messaging network has taken note of cases like these and is interested in taking action to increase the level of privacy enjoyed by its users. Recent reports indicate that WhatsApp is currently working on a feature that would enable users to interact with one another without the need to provide their phone numbers.

To enable users to connect without having to share their phone numbers, WhatsApp
It has been reported by WA beta Info that WhatsApp users on Android as well as those using the web will have the ability to register a username in order to personalise their profiles going forward. By employing a one-of-a-kind identifier, they will have an easier time connecting with their friends, family, and other connections on this platform.

Following the selection of a username by the user, the user’s phone number is kept confidential. Users are able to speak with one another without disclosing their personal contact information thanks to this additional layer of protection. Additionally, individuals will have the ability to easily change their username whenever they so want.

Additionally, WhatsApp is working on a feature that will allow users to search for other users by using this one-of-a-kind username. This is not all that WhatsApp is working on.

Within the screenshot that WA Beta Info distributed, it was discovered that users have the ability to search for other individuals by putting their username into the search bar. As a result, individuals will no longer require a person’s phone number in order to locate them on WhatsApp; instead, they will be able to connect with them by only inputting their username. Additionally, this feature will be accessible in both the mobile and online browser versions of the application.

With the new dark mode for WhatsApp online
An earlier report in WA Beta Info disclosed that WhatsApp is in the process of developing a new backdrop colour for the dark theme of its online version. This new colour will alleviate the strain that is placed on a user’s eyes when they are in an environment with low levels of illumination. The shade will be “specifically tailored for the dark theme,” according to the extra information provided in the report.

The research also stated that the transition from #111b20 to #12181c will bring about a change that is subtle but important. This modification will improve the aesthetic attractiveness of the interface while simultaneously reducing the amount of strain that is placed on the eyes.

It has not been officially confirmed by WhatsApp that this new update is available. On the other hand, the report mentioned that it will be made accessible to people as a component of a potentially forthcoming upgrade for a select group of beta testers. Alongside this, WhatsApp is also making adjustments to the sidebar that is present in its web version.
