The ban that had been in effect for the previous year has been lifted, according to the official account.
In light of the fact that Bluesky has released itself to the general public and implemented a number of additional moderation choices, the team has come to the conclusion that it is finally time to allow world leaders to join the platform as well. In a post that was published on Friday by the official Bluesky account, users were informed that “By the way… we lifted our ‘no heads of state’ policy.” The policy has been in effect for the past year, during which time Bluesky has undergone all of the early growing pains that come with having a social network that is just getting started.
After its initial introduction in February 2023, Bluesky continued to operate as an invite-only site until February of this year, when it eventually decided to do away with the waitlist of users. Bluesky had stated in May of last year that it was not yet ready for heads of state to join, and it had even requested that users give its support team notice “before you invite prominent figures.” The number of members has increased to over 5 million since then, with about one million new users joining the platform just one day after it stopped requiring invite codes.
