The AI searches for conversational patterns that are commonly linked to scammers.

It is a good thing that Google has just revealed that it will be releasing fraud detection features for Android phones later this year. Scammers are growing more and better at extracting money from people, so it is encouraging that Google has made this announcement. Although it is still in the testing phase, the toolkit that was presented at Google I/O 2024 makes use of artificial intelligence to identify fraudsters while they are in the middle of a discussion.

Oh, you read that correctly. The artificial intelligence will be on the lookout for conversation patterns that are typically connected with fraudulent schemes. After the detection has been made, you will be notified in real time on the phone, putting to rest any concerns that the person on the other end of the line is genuinely going to come over to serve a court summons or something else completely.

Google provides an example of a “bank representative” who requests sensitive information such as passwords and personal identification numbers (PINs). Given the rarity of these bank requests, the artificial intelligence would identify them and send out a warning. Everything that takes place on the device is maintained in complete secrecy. As of right now, this functionality will not be included in Android 15, and the firm has stated that it will provide additional information later on in the year. We are aware that individuals will be required to provide their consent in order to make use of the product.

By bringing its Gemini chatbot to actual devices, rather than requiring a connection to the cloud, Google took a significant move with the release of Android versions 15 and later. In addition to this technology for detecting scams, the incorporation of onboard artificial intelligence will unlock a multitude of additional benefits, such as contextual awareness when utilizing applications.
