It is just as frustrating and addictive as you could anticipate.
Flappy Bird, how it is! Since I last gave any thought to the game-turned-cultural-phenomenon that temporarily had all of us in a chokehold ten years ago, it has been a very long time since I had previously given any thought to it. At least, that was the situation up until this morning, when I happened onto a thread on Reddit that announced a Flappy Bird tribute for the Playdate. Without a single second of hesitation, I sideloaded it onto my tablet. Now here I am, completely and utterly enamored with this incredibly frustrating little game once more. The fact that you have to use the crank to control that bird that looks like a fool makes the situation even more difficult. It is possible to download FlappyBird by Chibisuke for free on itch.io, which is a platform dedicated to Playdate. You’re really welcome… or I truly apologize.
Like the original game, FlappyBird is a grayscale version of the original. You can play the game by using the up button on the D-pad, the ‘A’ button, or the crank to guide the bird between the pipes. However, I have been utilizing the crank because it provides an additional challenge to the game. In addition to that, it seems like the ideal way to use the crank, and I enjoy making the most of the Playdate’s creative design whenever I have the opportunity to do so. There are other games that are based on Flappy Bird that you can download on the Playdate, such as Cranky Bird and Flappybalt; but, Chibisuke’s FlappyBird is an exact replica of Dong Nguyen’s famous side-scrolling game.
A Sunday afternoon is a great time to get your heart rate up, and this is surely one way to do it. I just want to beg you to please refrain from asking me about my high score because I do not want to discuss it.
