Remember that June 20, 2025 is coming up.
We now know the date that the next installment in the 28 Days Later franchise will be released, which is June 20, 2025. Fans have been waiting for a very, very long time for another part in the ongoing series. On Friday, Sony Pictures made the announcement that the upcoming film 28 Years Later will be released to the public, as reported by Variety. It would have been sort of interesting if it had been scheduled with the actual 28th anniversary of the original film in the year 2030, considering how near we are to that now (which is terrifying, I know), but I can’t blame them for not holding people hanging for even longer.
Initially released in 2002, the film 28 Days Later featured Cillian Murphy in the role that would prove to be his breakthrough performance. In 2007, a sequel titled 28 Weeks Later was released, which featured a different cast from the original. In the past, there were rumors that plans were being made for the film 28 Months Later; however, it appears like we are going to skip over it. According to a rumor that was published earlier this year by The Hollywood Reporter, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, who was also responsible for directing the first film, will be directing and writing the new picture. It has been reported by Variety that Murphy will be one of the executive producers of the project; however, you should not get your hopes up about seeing him in a leading part. As things stand right now, it does not appear that this will be the case.
Although we do not currently have any information regarding the storyline, it has been rumored that Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes would be included in the film 28 Years Later. And there is a possibility that it will be the first of three new films in the franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ultimate goal is to create a trilogy.
