About 1,000 full-time positions are eliminated.

eBay, which announced earlier today that it is reducing its workforce by approximately 1,000 positions, is the most recent tech giant to be impacted by the economy. According to the information provided, this constitutes approximately nine percent of the full-time employees of the company. On January 24, employees in the United States are being asked to work from home, and notice will be given to those who are affected “shortly.” On the other hand, in contrast to Discord and Riot Games, eBay’s post did not go into detail about terms of termination or benefits. A reduction in the number of independent contractors is another thing that the company intends to do over the next few months.

As of the beginning of this month, the impact scale of eBay is comparable to that of Unity and Google, which does not paint a very favourable picture for the technology scene at the beginning of 2024. eBay, much like its competitors, attributed this round of layoffs to the fact that for the past few years, it has hired an excessive number of employees. “While we are making progress against our strategy, our overall headcount and expenses have outpaced the growth of our business,” explained Jamie Iannone, president and CEO of the company, in the memo. The new categorization tool by LinkedIn, which is powered by artificial intelligence, should hopefully come in handy for those who are in need.
