It states that it will respond to the requests even if it seems they were not made by Nintendo.
In order to comply with the Japanese company’s requests, Facepunch Studios has announced on Steam that it is eliminating twenty years’ worth of Nintendo-related workshop items for its sandbox game Garry’s Mod. Brewster T. Koopa, an X user, stated earlier this year that a gang of trolls was submitting fictitious DMCA claims against the game in an attempt to have Nintendo add-ons taken down and add-on manufacturers forced to close their doors. The offenders allegedly sent DMCA takedown notices by pretending to be Nintendo’s attorneys through the use of a phony email. In a recent announcement, Facepunch Studios stated that it respected Nintendo’s decision and would begin removing content pertaining to its intellectual properties. The company thinks that Nintendo made these demands legally.
The developer stated, “We have 20 years of uploads to go through, so this is a continuing effort.” “It would be really appreciated if you could remove all of your Nintendo-related uploads and never upload them again.”

There is someone, or a group of trolls going around the Gmod workshop filing false DMCA claims and shutting down addons, over 10 Gmod addon makers, myself included have been attacked, with over a dozen of our addons gone. pic.twitter.com/ZwVVhQjQlu
In a subsequent tweet, Koopa stated that they informed the business via email that the demands were not genuinely from Nintendo. They had previously maintained that the takedown requests could not have come from the massive Japanese video game firm because Nintendo add-ons have been available since 2005 and the corporation would have been in contact with Valve, the company that publishes Garry’s Mod.
Facepunch creator Garry Newman said that his company has received emails and direct messages from users and that the developer is looking into the matter while the announcement is still live. “We cannot allow anyone to abuse DMCA takedowns, but we also need to take these things seriously, especially from Nintendo,” Newman stated. We have contacted Nintendo to inquire about whether the takedowns Facepunch obtained actually originated from the company; if they reply, we will update this piece.
Yes, we have got your emails and dms, we have seen your theads, we're doing our own investigations. We need to take these things seriously (particularly from Nintendo), but we also can't let people misuse DMCA takedowns.
