The record number was contributed to by a variety of innovative technologies, including drones, self-driving automobiles, and others.

According to Reuters, the United States of America used more wireless data than ever before through the course of 2023, with a total consumption of more than 100 trillion gigabytes. According to a poll conducted by the industry, this record amount represents a 36 percent increase, or 26 trillion MB, over the previous year, 2022. The number of wireless connections also increased to 558 million in 2023, representing a six percent increase from the previous year, 2022.

In a fascinating turn of events, these increases were driven more by new technological developments than by established channels. In comparison to the previous year, the number of minutes spent talking on the phone by Americans decreased by almost 100 billion, while the amount of text messaging remained the same. Instead, it appeared that technological advancements such as drones, space missions, autonomous cars, and precision agriculture were the ones that brought about the desired change.

In spite of this, there is still a great deal of uncertainty in the United States regarding the methods of locating fresh spectrum for wireless communication. According to Meredith Attwell Baker, the Chief Executive Officer of the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA), “the wireless industry needs access to more full-power, licensed spectrum in order to continue to meet the insatiable demand for wireless, drive innovation, and support America’s economic competitiveness.” The National Spectrum Strategy was formed by the White House in November 2023 with the intention of enhancing spectrum access and management processes.
