Even as early as September, Metis might be available for purchase.

Business Insider has reported that Amazon is reportedly working on a new chatbot that has been given the codename “Metis.” The claim cites an internal document as well as unnamed persons who are acquainted with the project. Instead of Amazon’s Titan, which was released earlier, it would be powered by a new artificial intelligence model called Olympus.

It has been stated that Amazon intends to implement a strategy known as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) using Metis. According to the description provided by the firm, RAG “redirects the LLM to retrieve relevant information from authoritative, pre-determined knowledge sources.” Organizations have a better degree of control over the text output that is generated, and users are able to obtain insights into the process by which the LLM develops the response.

RAG, in its most basic form, enables systems to retrieve data from sources such as application programming interfaces (APIs) and document repositories that are not already pre-loaded. This data can be updated independently without the need to retrain a model, which could enable it to take advantage of the most recent knowledge and, as a result, provide results that are more precise and understandable (ideally).

Both Andy Jassy, the CEO of Amazon, and Rohit Prasad, the top scientist of the artificial general intelligence team and a senior vice president, are actively contributing to the development of Metis. It has also been stated that the team consists of a large number of experienced Alexa AI workers, and it appears that the technology that they built for the upcoming “Remarkable Alexa” voice assistant is being utilized in their working on Metis.

Amazon is making preliminary preparations to unveil Metis in September, which is roughly the same period that the company traditionally holds its product launch event. One of the sources, on the other hand, made the following statement: “Technically, it will work, I guess, but the question is if it’s already too late.” ChatGPT was initially introduced by OpenAI at the end of November 2022, and Google introduced Bard, which is now known as Gemini, in March 2023. These are only two examples of the most formidable competitors that Amazon will have to contend with. The Titan product offered by Amazon is not as strong as its rivals, despite the fact that the corporation has been working to expand its client base by providing options such as a business-centric model known as Q.
