Since November of last year, Voyager 1 has been transmitting data that cannot be read.

In spite of the fact that it had been experiencing technical difficulties for around seven months, NASA engineers were finally able to get the long-running Voyager 1 space probe back into full operating condition. In November of 2023, the spacecraft, which is located at a distance of more than 15 billion miles from Earth, began transmitting data that was peculiar and unintelligible. Since then, the team has been working diligently to determine the cause of the problem. Despite the fact that Voyager 1 appeared to be receiving and carrying out commands without any problems, none of the scientific and engineering data that it transmitted back to Earth made any sense.

It was in April when the crew discovered that the issue was caused by some corrupted memory in the computer that was part of the flight data subsystem (FDS) of the probe. Subsequently, they were able to get two of the probe’s instruments to start relaying science data again. As of right now, all four of Voyager 1’s instruments are once again delivering data that can be read, according to NASA. The Voyager 1 spacecraft was launched in 1977, and it is beyond comprehension that it is still operating in any manner. However, it is now able to resume its tasks, which require it to directly study interstellar space.
