A new tool that could potentially be controversial has been widely published by Adobe. It is called text-to-image creation for Photoshop powered by Firefly, and it was initially teased in April. In the same way that you can use LLMs like as Dall-E and Midjourney, you may use it to produce an image from scratch by typing a description into the improved generative AI tool that Photoshop provides.
After attempting it with the text “Dramatic low angle view of a steamship from the 1800s in a storm with large waves and lightning” in a variety of styles (anime, watercolor, sketch, and realistic), I was able to achieve satisfactory results. However, in the case of AI art, the typical concerns apply, particularly with strange elements that are visible if you look closely. On the other hand, it did provide results that are usable, and you have the advantage of being able to correct any problems while you are already inside Photoshop.
When it was first introduced, the Generative Fill function of Photoshop could only be used to add, extend, or remove particular sections of an image. It is now possible to build photos from scratch and then modify them at a later time. “This really speeds up time to creation,” Erin Boyce, an employee at Adobe, said in an interview with Newtechmania in April. “The idea of getting something from your mind to the canvas has never been easier.”
This functionality is powered by the Firefly Image 3 model, which is something that has been at the center of a current artist protest against Adobe. Creators were upset by language that was recently included in Adobe’s terms of service (ToS), which they interpreted to suggest that Adobe may freely use their work to train the company’s generative artificial intelligence models.
Adobe, on the other hand, noted in its most recent post that it has a “commitment to creator friendly AI,” which implies that it “never trains on customer content.” Within the framework of its AI ethical principles, which include accountability, responsibility, and openness, it pledged to use a methodology that is beneficial to creators.
An additional function called “Enhance Detail” was added to Photoshop’s Generative Fill by Adobe in addition to the image generating capabilities. The following features were introduced for Illustrator: Enhanced Text to Pattern, which allows for the creation of customized vector patterns in the artist’s style; Style Reference; and Generative Shape Fill, which allows for the addition of intricate vectors in a designer’s own distinctive style (see above). The Mockup tool, which allows users to create “high-quality visual prototypes of art on objects like product packaging,” was also included, along with increased selecting capabilities and other features.
