Late in the year, the company expanded their lineup to include the Grand Theft Auto trilogy.

According to Netflix, the amount of time users spent playing games on the service increased by a factor of three in 2023. “[Despite] games still being small, and certainly not yet material relative to our film and series business, we are pleased with this progress,” the company said in its earnings report on Tuesday. “[We] are pleased with this progress.” As an illustration, the business cited the incorporation of the Grand Theft Auto trilogy into the service in the previous year. However, it is not quite obvious how much the trilogy, which was first made available on Netflix on December 14th, contributed to the increase in interaction during the last two weeks of the year.

The video game Grand Theft Auto has become Netflix’s “most successful launch to date” in terms of the number of installs and the amount of engagement it has received. However, it did not specify the number of individuals who had downloaded the trilogy since it was made available on the software platform. According to the firm, there were some consumers who had signed up for Netflix only for the purpose of playing Grand Theft Auto games.

Compared to 2022, when an analysis conducted by Apptopia and CNBC revealed that less than one percent of Netflix’s users were playing games, which the business had made available to everyone with a Netflix membership a year earlier, this represents a significant shift in the firm’s client base. Netflix keeps adding new games to its platform, despite the fact that user adoption has been modest. Its expanding gaming portfolio features well-known titles such as Hades, Dead Cells, Braid, Death’s Door, and Katana Zero, in addition to games such as Oxenfree II: Lost Signal, which it produced independently after purchasing the independent game developer Night School. There are other games on the platform that are based on the site’s own popular original series, such as Money Heist and The Dragon Prince.

Netflix reported that it had added 13.1 million customers in the final three months of 2023, which is the greatest number of subscribers it has recruited since the tremendous growth it experienced during the pandemic. This is in addition to the numbers it had added during the previous three months. It is currently estimated that there are 260 million people that subscribe to Netflix all over the world.
