Jack Dorsey just recently said that he was leaving the company’s board.
According to the social media manual, Bluesky is taking quite a few pages out of the book. An announcement was made by the decentralized social app that it is working on new features such as direct messages (DMs), video, and enhanced custom feeds. The company says that it has grown from 40,000 users to 5.6 million members in just one year since it opened its doors to the general public in February.
DMs are an especially notable addition because, at the moment, all posts on Bluesky are accessible to the general public; however, the new DM option that the firm is introducing will be integrated directly into the app. The initial availability of these communications should be limited to one-to-one communication, and users have the ability to restrict who can communicate with them by selecting several choices, such open, following users only, and disabled. Even if the company makes use of an open-source framework, the development of direct messages (DMs) will initially be “off-protocol,” which will allow Bluesky to “iteratively” produce them.
As Bluesky projects that clips of up to ninety seconds in length can be shared, videos are currently in the process of being created. The firm is investigating a number of concepts for Custom Feeds, some of which include a location for trending feeds, the ability to create feeds within the app, and an overall improvement in feed discovery. Bluesky is also implementing OAuth, and the company is hoping that users will eventually be able to “Log In with Bluesky.”
Bluesky has not yet determined a release date for any of the upcoming improvements; however, the business anticipates that all of these updates will be made available within the next few months. Jack Dorsey, who was a co-founder of Twitter and once served as its CEO, was a notable supporter of the network. The fact that Dorsey was no longer a member of Bluesky’s board of directors was recently confirmed by him.
