It is said that near the end of her life, she will play a replicant… or will she?
Since the last time we received an update on Blade Runner 2099, the sequel series that is going to be available on Amazon Prime Video, it has been quite some time. According to Variety, the cast list is beginning to take shape, and it has been claimed that Michelle Yeoh, who has won an Academy Award and is an icon in many other ways, would play a leading role.
Variety has a source that says Yeoh will portray a character named Olwen, who has been described as a replicant nearing the end of her life. In spite of the fact that plot specifics are being kept under wraps, Variety has this information. This is pretty much all that we know about the tale, with the exception of the fact that it takes place fifty years after Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, which received a lot of positive reviews. It is highly possible that this is owing to the fact that by the time we reach the year 2049, we will not even come close to reaching the level of technology that was depicted in that movie. In the end, the year 2019 was the setting for the first Blade Runner film.
Ridley Scott, the originator of the franchise, is participating in the project in some capacity, although not as the showrunner. It is the responsibility of TV writer Silka Luisa, who was recently in charge of the adaptation of the book Shining Girls that was produced by Apple TV+. To put it simply, the show was fantastic, therefore I am optimistic.
When it comes to Yeoh, what else is there to say? A well-deserved Academy Award was bestowed to her for her performance in the film Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. She has also been a part of a number of other famous films, including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Sunshine, and Tomorrow Never Dies, amongst many more. Her role will be included in a spinoff film that is expected to be released later this year. She spent a couple seasons on Star Trek: Discovery, where she brought her acting skills to the forefront. This month has been a very significant one for the actress, as she has recently been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian honor in the United States.
