A genuine Sony portable gaming gadget is just one step away.
It has come as a bit of a surprise to Sony that the PlayStation Portal has been such a huge popular success. Despite the fact that it only has one function, which is to stream games from your own PlayStation 5, the portable accessory in question is frequently unavailable and difficult to locate. Unless you find a way to tweak the gadget so that it can run games locally, the device does not run games locally.
According to two Google developers, they have successfully accomplished this goal by enabling the PlayStation Portable emulator known as PPSSPP to function natively on the Portal. The game Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories can be seen actively running on the system in a photograph. It took “more than a month of hard work” to see the project through to completion, according to Andy Nguyen, one of the engineers. He also stated that there were no hardware modifications that were necessary in order to make the emulator run.

According to The Verge, Nguyen has previously found flaws for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. At this time, it is not entirely clear whether Nguyen will give specific instructions on how to get PPSSPP to function properly or whether he would release a jailbreak in order to make it easier for other people to install the emulator on the Portal. According to what Nguyen posted on X, “There is no release planned in the near future, and there is a great deal more work to be done.” Despite this, Nguyen has dropped hints that he would upload some videos this weekend that demonstrate how the emulator works.
The Portal is undeniably well-liked, and it is glaringly obvious that gamers have a strong desire to be able to exert more control over the system. The current state of affairs is such that they are unable to even stream games from Sony’s cloud gaming service. It’s possible that these elements will be sufficient to persuade Sony to provide a real handheld successor to the PlayStation Portable and the PlayStation Vita, which is what a lot of fans really want.
