Google’s Gemini AI is not mentioned on the Chinese product pages for Samsung.
When it comes to China, the Samsung Galaxy S24 will not be bringing Google’s Gemini AI with it. The artificial intelligence-driven features of the flagship phone in China are reportedly powered by Baidu’s Ernie chatbot, according to a report that was published by CNBC on Friday. According to reports, Ernie arrived in August of last year after gaining approval from the Chinese authorities.
“Now featuring Ernie’s understanding and generation capabilities, the upgraded Samsung Note Assistant can translate content and also summarize lengthy content into clear, intelligently organized formats at the click of a button, thereby streamlining the organization of extensive text,” Baidu and Samsung said in a joint statement to CNBC. “Ernie’s capabilities include the ability to understand and generate content.”
The description of the Galaxy S24 series that Samsung has posted on its Chinese website promises many of the same Google-powered capabilities that the company introduced during its launch event in San Jose, California, the previous week. A variant of Circle to Search, real-time call translation, a transcription assistant, and a photo assistance are some of the features that are included in this category. In spite of the fact that Google has a limited presence in China, the product pages for the Galaxy S24 in China do not contain any references to the organization.
Apple may have recently toppled Samsung’s 14-year reign as the global leader in smartphone shipment, according to a study that was published not too long ago. Furthermore, the information that was provided by IDC this week suggests that the iPhone manufacturer has successfully taken the top spot in the Chinese market for the very first time in 2023, with a market share of 17.3 percent. There was no place for Samsung in the top five.
An evaluation of the Galaxy S24 series, comprising the regular, Plus, and Ultra models, was carried out by Newtechmania. On the 31st of January, 2024, Samsung will introduce its flagship phone lineup in the United States.
