For those that own more recent Radeon cards, the business is predicting enormous increases.

AMD has fulfilled its promise to Radeon gamers that it would provide frame generation for virtually all games available on the market. This commitment was made in the beginning of 2024. That statement was made by the firm back in August of 2023, when it introduced the Radeon 7800 XT and 7700 XT graphics cards. The company stated that it would not only be delivering frame generation in more games than Nvidia, but it would also be offering it for more GPUs. The phrase “promises made, promises kept” originated from the political world. The feature is now accessible for use in any game that supports DX11 or DX12 by use of the most recent Adrenalin driver package.

WHQL certification has been awarded to the new Adrenalin Edition 24.1.1 driver bundle from the company. With its 7000-series and 6000-series graphics processing units (GPUs), it offers inclusion of support for Fluid Motion Frames in any DX11 or DX12 game. AMD is making some strong promises about this function, stating that it enables up to 97% higher frames per second in “select” games when paired with FSR2 upscaling when performed at 1080p resolution. In addition to this, it asserts that gamers can achieve benefits of up to 103% in specific games when playing at 1440p and simultaneously making use of upscaling. Despite the fact that the phrase “select titles” sounds suspicious, the footnote explains that the games in question are well-known titles such as Starfield, Cyberpunk 2077, Call of Duty, Baldur’s Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, and other AAA games.

Similarly to the approach offered by Nvidia, AMD Fluid Motion Frames will result in the introduction of input delay; hence, it is not advised for competitive shooters that play at a high pace. AMD suggests setting their Anti-Lag software to reduce latency in order to prevent this adverse effect. However, it is recommended that you only use this software on games in which you are already at 60 frames per second. Even if it is set worldwide, AMD claims that this additional delay must be manually activated in some competitive shooters. This is due to the fact that it has the potential to cause problems. Additionally, it can be toggled on and off by pressing Alt-Shift-G, and an on-screen overlay displays its state. This is a feature that Nvidia does not give with its version, and it is a useful one.

Additionally, in order to make Fluid Motion Frames work, you need to make sure that V-Sync is turned off and that the game is being played in full-screen mode. The unfortunate reality is that third-party frame monitoring tools such as MSI Afterburner do not support this capability either. Also, it is only supported on the most recent graphics processing units (GPUs) manufactured by the business, which means that you probably won’t be able to run it on the integrated GPU of your AMD laptop unless it is one of the company’s most recent RDNA 3 processors.
