Payments of up to $92 per affected iPhone have started to be sent to some owners of the gadget.
It has been reported that certain iPhone users who filed claims in Apple’s class action settlement over battery throttling have begun to get their portions of the payout. The settlement was for a total of two hundred million dollars. A lawsuit that was filed against Apple in 2017 accused the firm of purposely lowering the performance of older iPhones without adequately disclosing to customers that it was doing so. Apple’s agreement to resolve the lawsuit was reached in the year 2020. According to the estimates that were available at the time of the settlement, iPhone owners would receive payouts of approximately $25 for each claim. On the other hand, individual payments of up to $92 began arriving this weekend, as stated by MacRumors and a screenshot of a direct deposit that was posted by a user.
Only iPhone owners in the United States are eligible for the settlement, which covers iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, and SE models as long as they were running iOS 10.2.1 or later prior to December 21, 2017. Additionally, the settlement applies to iPhone 7 or 7 Plus models that were running iOS 11.2 or later by the same cutoff date. By the end of October 2020, claims had to be submitted. People who possessed numerous models that met these requirements were permitted to submit separate claims for each of them. This means that some of these individuals will be receiving a series of payouts from Apple in the near future.
In the event that you have not yet received a payment, you can be certain that it will arrive in the near future. According to a December update that was published on the website of the settlement, it is stated that payments should begin to decrease in January 2024. This is consistent with allegations that they have begun to progressively arrive.
