It is claimed by the online retailer that it has made the transition to using paper filler for 95 percent of its deliveries in North America.

Do you remember those tiny plastic air bags that you find with your more fragile Amazon purchases? When you crush them, they produce the perfect popping noise. As of the end of the year, Amazon has stated that it has significantly decreased its utilization of them and intends to totally remove their utilization.

The e-commerce giant made the announcement on its news site that it has used crumbled paper filler instead of plastic air pillows, which has resulted in a 95 percent reduction in the use of plastic air pillows. In addition, Amazon has stated that it intends to employ paper filler for “nearly all” of the packages that it makes to customers on Prime Day.

The company has stated that the decision to abolish the usage of plastic air cushions at its distribution centers is made with the intention of reducing waste that is not essential and putting more of an emphasis on the utilization of recyclable resources.

When it comes to our environment, plastic pollution has always been a worry; nevertheless, it has significantly expanded as a result of Amazon’s meteoric rise, particularly during the COVID pandemic. This is especially true in the United States. According to a research that was published in 2021 by Oceana, a nonprofit organization that works to protect the ocean, Amazon generated 599 million pounds of waste made of plastic in the year 2020. The group also predicted that the waste that would be produced from plastic air cushions alone “would circle the Earth more than 600 times.”
